USA Apostille Services

An Apostille is a way to verify the authenticity of your documents in an internationally accepted manner. Once you have received the results of your FBI background check and your diploma, the next step is to get them both Apostilled. There are two different Apostille options available. One is for documents issued at the federal level and it is the US Department of State Apostille. Your FBI background check will need to be Apostilled at the federal level. The second Apostille option is done at the state level. Once you have a notarized copy of your diploma, you have the option of getting it Apostilled at either the federal or state level. Both options are accepted by the Korean government for the diploma only. The FBI background check can only Apostilled at the federal level and not at the state level.

Monument Visa Service (Federal level Apostille service)

This is the service that will Apostille your FBI background check. They can Apostille the physical copy of the background check that you mail in, or you can submit a digital PDF copy. They also have regular and expedited services. The regular services can take a month or longer to process, therefore make sure you know which option works best for your situation timewise. You will not need any documents translated.

Secretary of State Offices (State level Apostille service)

If you choose to Apostille your diploma at the State level, please find the link for your state's Secretary of State office below in order to obtain their location and contact information. Please remember to bring a notarized copy of your diploma with you as you will Apostille the notarized copy of the diploma, not the original diploma. Not all states accept notarizations from a regular notary. Some states require the university to notarize the diploma. Please make sure you are meeting the requirements of your state.

Canada Apostille Service

As of 2024, Canadians must Apostille both their RCMP Criminal record checks and their university diplomas. An Apostille is accepted at an international level and verifies the authenticity of the document you are submitting. The Apostille process varies according to the province or territory you live in.

Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan

Notarize the documents: If you live in one of these provinces, you will need to notarize your ORIGINAL RCMP Criminal record check, not a copy. You will need to go to a lawyer who has a notary license in order to notarize the document by signing, dating and stamping it. For your university diploma, you will be requesting a notarized COPY of the diploma. You can either get it notarized with a public notary or with a lawyer that has a notary license. You must notarize your document in the same province that you will Apostille the document in.

Apostille the documents: You will need to send the original notarized copy of the RCMP Criminal record check along with the notarized copy of your diploma to your local provincial authentications office. The links to each office are listed below. Please follow the directions provided on the website of your provincial office.

Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon

Notarize the documents: If you live in one of these provinces or territories, you do not need to get your RCMP Criminal record check notarized. You will need to get a notarized copy of your university diploma. Either a public notary or a lawyer with a notary license can provide you with a notarized copy.

Apostille the documents: You will need to submit your RCMP Criminal record check and notarized copy of your diploma to JLAC (Global Affairs Division) in Ottawa in order to get them Apostilled. Please use the JLAC Global Affairs website link below to obtain further instructions for submitting your documents. If you would prefer to track your documents when they are being mailed back to you, you may want to look into including a prepaid return envelope from a priority mail service.
