Paperwork Requirements
A passport from an English-speaking country and be a Native English Speaker
Only 7 countries are considered native English speaking and qualify for visas to teach English in South Korea. They are as follows: Australia, Britain, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
You must have a 4-year university degree in any subject. Two-year associate's degrees are not accepted. TESL and TEFL certificates are not required. The university must be located in one of the 7 countries listed above.
Pass a Criminal background check
You must have a clean criminal record. If you have a minor offense such as traffic violations, those are generally accepted. Any major offense, such as criminal charges, arrests, DUI or DWI and convictions will not qualify for a visa.
Pass a Health Exam
Minor ailments are not an issue in the health exam. If you have a communicable disease, you will be rejected. If you have a prescription for medications to treat mental illness, you may also not be eligible for a visa. You will receive a health exam upon arriving in South Korea. If you have not disclosed these issues previously and are discovered to have them, your visa will be revoked, and you will have to return to your home country at your expense. Please mention any conditions you may have to verify whether you qualify for a visa or not before you begin the visa paperwork process.
